Too Cute Amigurumi is an adorable new book release from amigurumi designer Jennifer Santos. Jennifer Santos is the creator and founder of Super Cute Design shop. I first discovered her a couple of years ago when I had first started making amigurumi toys. My daughter had suggested that I create an artist account on Instagram displaying my creations. So I began following other amigurumi designers; I discovered Super Cute Design. I fell in love with Jennifer’s kawaii creations. They were so fun and colorful. So when her book was released, I couldn’t wait to buy it and start creating all the different characters.
Let’s Chat About the Book
The first thing I would say about this book is that it is an excellent beginner-friendly book for amigurumi makers. You’ll find 30 adorable crochet patterns in this book. The patterns have two categories of skills, beginner and intermediate. The instructions for the designs I did were easy to read and follow. Each pattern is written in U.S. crochet terminology. The pattern lists the material needed for each design. In addition, an abbreviations list of each stitch you’ll find in the crochet pattern. The creator Jennifer Santos gives a sweet little introduction to each of her characters. Jennifer encourages makers of her design to switch around the expressions and to have fun with the characters.
When I first began crocheting amigurumi, I struggled with sewing the pieces on my animal or doll. I love Too Cute Amigurumi because most of the designs in this book have minimal sewing requirements. Which I think will make most beginner amigurumi makers happy.
Too Cute Amigurumi has six different chapters of fun and creative characters to crochet. Each of the chapters has a fun theme. For example, there is a chapter called Anything Is Popsicle! where you’ll be able to crochet delightful frozen treats. Another chapter is called Girls Just Wanna Have Sun; in this chapter, you’ll find the raindrop, sun, and cloud that I made, plus some more characters. Each chapter contains five designs that go with the title of that chapter.
Conclusion
I was able to crochet the characters that I made from the book within an hour or two. The patterns are fun and cheerful to make. I overall like this book and would recommend it to any amigurumi enthusiast.
The only issue with the book is that part of the Smiling Sun pattern was missing. However, I was able to figure it out on my own. If you are familiar with increasing and decreasing a row of stitches, you should be OK with the sun pattern.
