Let’s talk about the pattern.

This cowl pattern is straightforward. The design is a two-stitch repeat. The repeat stitches consist of two rounds of double crochet and four rounds of single crochet. You’ll repeat this pattern ending with the last two rounds of double crochets.

The pattern starts with a chain of eighty stitches but may be adjusted for a longer-length cowl. First, ensure you have an even number of chains on your foundation chain.

The pattern ends with twenty rounds, consisting of eight double crochets and twelve single crochet rounds. If you’d like to make your cowl’s height longer than mine, you can make a few more rounds following the pattern. Just make sure to end the last two rounds with the double crochet.

Materials and Guage.

I love how tweed yarn looks, especially for scarves and cowls. The Cozy Tweed & Sweet Cowl is crocheted using a worsted weight #4 acrylic tweeded yarn. I used the Hobby Lobby brand; I love this yarn for both cowls. Of course, you can use any yarn you’d like for this pattern.

Regarding crocheting scarves and cowls, I don’t focus intensely on the gauge. I used a 6.5mm/K crochet hook for this cowl project. When crocheting, I tend to crochet my stitches on the tighter side. Whether you like your cowl to sit around your neck looser or tighter will depend on the hook size and number of chains. When you’ve joined your foundation chain, try it on, see if you like how it looks and feels, and adjust it from there.
